Dorothy Iris Willis was the fourth eldest of nine children born to Frederick
William Willis And Florence May Cowell. and went to St Mathews,
Church of England School in City Road, London.
Born at 36 .Torrens Buildings, moved to a house in New Charles Street
for a few years, then in 1939. just before world war 2, moved to 142,
Elthorne road, London N19.
Iris was evacuated to Bedfordshire along with three brothers, Sidney,
Albert and Leslie. but returned home some time later, but as bombing
had got so bad was sent away again for safety to Bicester in Oxfordshire.
There in a place called `Stratton Park� stayed in the Grooms cottage
with a Mrs Hughes.
From there to Alton in Hampshire to be near eldest Sister May, evacuated
with her two boys,
In 1945. Joined the W.R.N.S at St Merryn Fleet Air Arm Base,Cornwall.
where she met her Husband Austin Byrne. Shortly after getting
Married was allocated a new Prefabricated home at Sutton Manor, Lancs.
where two children were raised.
From there moving to 27a, Bassenthwaite Avenue , Finally retiring to a
house at Carr Mill, Lancs.
