Born 3rd September 1887, at 26. Wellington Street Clerkenwell, Islington. Son of William John Willis and Catherine Ellen Nurse.

26. Wellington street Is a corner wedge shaped building bearing a blue plaque to Charles Dickens who had an apartment in the building, the shop on the ground floor housed the offices of Charles Dickens magazine "All the year round".

At the age of 14, Fred signed on for twelve years of service with the Royal Irish Fusiliers on the 4th October 1901. as a musician piaying the cornet
(a three valve trumpet)
He was discharged at Shorncliffe,� of Exemplary conduct and character while
serving with the colours�. on the 3rd October 1913. To an address
36, Charlesworth Street. Caledonian road, London.
It was on 16. September 1916. That Fred� and Florence May Cowell
(b. 24. September 1897.) started out from number 15. and 8. respectivly
to marry at St Thomas, Barnsbury ParishChurch on 16th September 1916.
Both gave a false age on the certificate. Fred 26, (real age 29 ). Florence 20,(real age 19). this was common practice at the time to give a respectable age difference.

At 36, Torrens Building (above the Angel tube station) THE WILLIS TREE was created. Eight of which were born there during the years 1920--1936.before moving briefly to New Charles Street. Then finally to 142, Elthorne Road,upper Holloway where the last child was born.

Fred died at Elthorne Road on the 25th March 1956.
